DI in the outer Galaxy
We report on a deep search with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope towards the galactic anticenter for the 327 MHz hyperfine transition of DI. This is a favorable direction for a search because: (i) the HI optical depth is high due to velocity crowding; (ii) the observed molecular column density is low (implying that most of the deuterium would probably be in atomic form, rather than in H...

متن کاملMass of the Galaxy Inferred from Outer Rotation Curve
Using an outer rotation curve of the Galaxy, we explore the galactic constants and the mass of the Galaxy. We show that Θ0 of 200 km s −1 is more favorable than the IAU standard value of 220 km s, and also show that if Θ0 is smaller than 207 km s −1 the rotation curve beyond 2R0 is declining in Keplerian fashion. In the case of Θ0= 200 km s −1 and R0= 7.6 kpc, the total mass and the extent of t...
متن کاملThe distance to a star forming region in the Outer arm of the Galaxy
We performed astrometric observations with the VLBA of WB89−437, an H2O maser source in the Outer spiral arm of the Galaxy. We measure an annual parallax of 0.167±0.006 mas, corresponding to a heliocentric distance of 6.0±0.2 kpc or a Galactocentric distance of 13.4 ± 0.2 kpc. This value for the heliocentric distance is considerably smaller than the kinematic distance of 8.6 kpc. This confirms ...
متن کاملCircumstellar disks in the outer Galaxy: the star-forming region NGC1893
Context. It is still debated whether star formation process depends on environment. In particular it is yet unclear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are, theoretically, less conducive, occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. Aims. We investigate the population of NGC 1893, a young cluster (∼3−4 Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (RG ≥ 11 kp...
